Since Hospice of SLO County initiated the first Avila Concours d’Elegance in 2007, there has been a growing core of dedicated people who have shared our vision for this event and donated their time and resources to make it more special each year.
Over the past 8 years the event has financially had its ups and downs and since moving to San Luis Obispo in 2012 has been in the black each year. However, while the event has realized an annual net gain, the demands on our staff’s time has increased annually out of proportion with the income it generates for the organization. As a volunteer hospice organization, our survival and success has been in keeping our staffing levels and overhead low and relying on the heart and dedication of an amazing core of volunteers.
It became necessary for the Concours Steering Committee to honestly assess whether continuing the SLO Concours was a fiscally responsible decision for the organization. While we all feel a personal attachment to this event and the partners it has brought through entrants, sponsors, vendors and donors, it is also necessary to remain focused on our strong commitment to the furtherance of the mission and services of Hospice of SLO County.
The Hospice SLO Concours will not take place in 2016. We are immensely grateful to each one of you for your support in having made this event possible for the past 8 years. Whether it was taking the time to show your vehicles, judging, helping to underwrite the event with your sponsorship, donating/discounting goods or services or donating auction items, this would not have been possible without you.
The Concours Steering Committee, Hospice SLO Board of Directors, Staff and Volunteers thank you for helping us continue to provide free services to the community including in-home respite care, emotional and practical support for individuals with life-limiting illnesses and their families and grief counseling for individuals, friends, families and co-workers.
